Forum moderators are on the front lines of the organization. Any nut can register for an account and write anything from spam to nonsense to hate. Our faithful Forum Moderators will leap into action and take appropriate measures up to IP banning. This means that our faithful Forum Moderators will have to look at every post that comes through their subforum.

Other roles and responsibilities of our faithful Forum Moderators:

- Oversee their subforum for mis-categorized topics, moving them and notifying the author
- Interface with the website admins to relay any problems or concerns
- Interface with forum participants when appropriate
- Uphold differing points of view, within reason
- Encourage looking at topics from differing points of view
- FAIRLY play "referee" if necessary
- Maintain a (pleasant) presence in their subforum, whether low-key or active
- Warn, mute, or ban offenders (in that order) as necessary - without involving ego
- Must have a decent grasp on how to write coherently - or be willing to learn

It is suggested that we hold our faithful Forum Moderators to the same level of accountability as other PCP officials:

- Honesty and integrity
- Uphold PCP proposed policies
- Manage the bulk of their own affairs

The logic behind having our faithful Forum Moderators largely manage their own affairs is that they know their forum participants best. We will offer site-wide support and guidance. This is a volunteer position. The payment is "status" but at the same time we will not tolerate narcissistic (cough cough reddit cough) moderators. Real talk.

Our faithful Forum Moderators care about their issues - at the same time as being FAIR to all reasonable points of view.

When (and how) is it appropriate to select forum moderators?

Right now! It's the one thing we can do on opening day. We can get discussions rolling.

Initially positions will be awarded on a first-come-first-served basis. In time we may consider term limits (or maybe not) but there will absolutely be a process for replacing moderators when appropriate. If more than one person wants to moderate a particular forum, we may allow multiple moderators or encourage a vote or taking turns. The point is to make progress not sweat relatively minor issues. We have lots of subforums that will need moderators.

COMMENT QUESTIONS:

How can we attract and retain quality forum moderators?
