This is the fun part!
Well, almost. Before we discuss who we like for which office, we have to decide HOW we're going to choose which candidates to endorse.
From city commission to President we expect the following from any candidate we endorse:
- Honesty and integrity
- Uphold PCP proposed policies
- Manage the bulk of their own campaigns/budgets
The logic behind having candidates largely manage their own affairs is that they know their constituents best. We will offer some structural support and guidance, and possibly (in the future) a small stipend to get started. That means our endorsed candidates aren't beholden to us because we control their purse strings. They associate with us because our values align.
When (and how) is it appropriate to endorse or run candidates?
As the organization has just opened and has less than 1,000 members, we are not yet affiliated with any candidates. When the organization reaches a threshold determined by popular vote of the members we will use a democratic process to move forward.
We have a section for State Chapters of PCP. We expect all candidates, with the possible exception of the office of US President, to come from those state chapters.
Although still open for debate our initial idea is to announce a time frame for suggestions, dialogue, and campaigning, culminating in a Chapter-wide formal vote. The vote will hinge on popular support. PCP delegates are NOT part of any electoral college system.
